New York City and State pass sexual harassment legislation with new requirements for businesses

Bills passed by the New York City Council and New York State legislature this month aim to curb sexual harassment in the workplace.

These bills will require mandatory training and management policies, as well as limiting the use of non-disclosure agreements for sexual harassment claim settlements and prohibiting the use of mandatory arbitration clauses for sexual harassment claims.

While the NYC Council bills await Mayor DeBlasio’s signature, Governor Cuomo signed the state package into law on April 12, 2018. To learn more about the new legislation, download the Update here.
